The autobiography of well renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Benjamin Carson, entitled “Gifted Hands” aired on TNT this past Saturday, February 7th, 2009. The movie was very similar to the book and the cast did a great job acting their roles.

The cast including Cuba Gooding Jr. who played Dr. Carson and did a fantastic job. Even though they are doubts on Gooding’s “black card”, there are absolutely no questions on his acting.

Kimberly Elise played Carson’s mother, and she has had many expertise as playing a mother on the big screen as she was John Q’s mother. She has done many movies with Denzel Washington such as Manchurian Canidate, John Q, and The Great Debaters.
The director was Thomas Carter. He also directed Coach Carter and many other movies and sitcoms. Carter is now working on a movie about the great baseball legend, Jackie Robinson. This movie is not yet titled nor rated.
If you missed Gifted Hands on TNT this past Saturday, please look for the next time it shows. Its a must-see movie on one of the most outstanding black doctors of today.
I gave a presentation of my teaching career in Southwest Detroit for students here in Kapa’a Kauai, and the next week a student stopped me and said a commercial had just appeared on cable.
I missed it. But my students saw it and loved it. The ghetto of southwest Detroit is a world away from here, but the students got the point and were inspired.
Thanks to all who made the story. Here’s a tip Cuba. Omar Paulk lives in Detroit and has an incredible story. Detroit is attracting film makers because of the tax incentives.
Omar painted Ben Carson in a mural at Madonna University back in 2002. It’s on the RARE Foundation documentary.
Keep making films like this.
Aloha.
